Traffic Not the Key to Domination
If you think “hits” (website traffic) is the key to dominating your industry, take a lesson from Yahoo. Yahoo is the top viewed site on the Internet, but Google dominates for search.

website hits
People go to Yahoo and end up clicking the celebrity news, etc… Then they go to Google to actually FIND stuff. Yahoo needs to decide if they want to be an information portal – or a search engine.
As an information portal, they have good eyeballs… but as far as search goes, they’re leaving the market open for Google to dominate by having too many distractions to the search process.
Google doesn’t have any competition as far as straight search goes. Yahoo is trying to be ‘everything to everyone’ while Google is focused on ‘search for searchers’
Diversification often inhibits domination. What is your site focused on?

Hello again,
I am not a stalker or spammer. I’m just finding answers to questions that I was not clear on. For example, I heard that Yahoo had the most ‘whatever it was said at the time’. Over time, my brain turned it into Yahoo is number 1. Period.
So for the past 2 months, I didn’t understand what the focus on Google was. Now I know!
Can you give any examples of sites you would consider NOT focused? I’m actually referring to sites that are not part of the AJ group and clearly not a newbie site.

Hi Renee… lol on the stalker thing. I know you’re not. There’s a little test I use to make sure a site is focused. It goes like this: If a child or senior loads a website, can they tell in 1 minute or less what it’s about. If not, it’s not focused enough on it’s own purpose.
When you think about it, if you load CNN, you can tell right away it’s a news site. When you load Google, you can tell it’s a search engine, when you load a dating site, you can tell that’s what it is. Any site that isn’t just as clear is probably losing people for lack of focus.
Does that help at all?
Yes Linda, that does simplify the thought process. I have to put my thinking cap again.
