Blog Home: Protect Yourself From Paypal Account Theft

There seems to be an increase in the number of people trying to steal paypal logins these days. When you get the email, it appears to be legitimate, and appears to be from paypal. Learning to use your email headers can save your account from password theft.

If you use Outlook, right-click the message in the folder view, then choose options. In an open message, choose View | Options. The “headers” are hidden information that tell who REALLY sent an email. In this case, even though the “from” field says paypal.com, that can be forged. A quick peek at the email headers tells me that the email was really sent by troery@yehey.com and belongs in the trash bin.

Hi Linda, great post on checking for fraud. Since I just launched my SimpleEcovers.com website and I’m using paypal for my invoices, it’s nice to know tips like this to protect ourselves.

Believe me, I’ll be checking my email header more often. You possibly saved me from getting my account overtaken.

And on a personal note, you left a comment on my blog awhile back asking when my ecover site will be going live. Well it’s live now so go and check it out over at SimpleEcovers.com.

You have a gem of a website here and I’ll be coming by more often for your wisdom and expert advice. Thanks for all you do.
