About this blog

I’ve been helping small business owners sell their stuff since the late nineties. Web design, SEO, marketing. Also business card design, business concepts and consulting, strategy, PPC, SEM. It all boils down to selling. Like a Bartholomew Cubbins of the web, I wear a lot of hats.

My favorite client is pulling in about $5,000/day from over a dozen page one Google listings. While making several million a year (on a $25 product) isn’t typical, it’s not as uncommon as you’d think.  The number of Internet Millionaires grows by about 10% per year. But, more typical would be the clients that make about $10,000/month. Most typical are the site owners that are confused about what to do.

Being online pretty much every day, I’ve developed a few pet peeves.

Like people running “how to make money online” sites when they’ve never made any. Life lesson #1; you can’t teach anyone to do what you haven’t learned to do yet yourself.

Another one is the Internet Marketing crowd and their “OMG, you have to buy it today or lose out. It’s the greatest thing since sliced white bread and here’s my super duper long sales letter with three font colors and a dozen bullet points (just above the fold). And here, I’ll throw in ALL these bonuses so’s you can see that you’d be a moron to miss out.

*sigh* Do you see Rolex doing that? Microsoft? Oh wait. No. We see “that” selling technique on the home shopping channel.

And while we’re at it, I’ve grown very, very weary of people selling yesterday’s SEO techniques as the latest and greatest. No, you don’t need high PageRank. No, you don’t need lots of incoming links. No, you should not be trading or buying links.

What should you be doing?

Why… reading this blog. Of course.
